In a heartwarming gesture, a newly married couple from Theni has donated ₹1.91 lakh, the gift money (moi) they received from their wedding guests, to support the construction of a cancer care facility in Madurai. The donation was made on Tuesday to Aishwaryam Trust’s Nethravathi Pain, Palliative, and Rehabilitation Centre.
Meenakshisundaram, the father of the groom, shared the inspiration behind the generous donation. "I’ve been following Dr. Paul Manickam’s videos, and in one of them, he mentioned the ongoing construction of a cancer ward for terminally ill patients at Aishwaryam Trust in Thiruparankundram. The facility aims to support cancer patients in the final stages of life by providing free food, medical treatment, and other essential services."
M. Hariharan, the groom and an IT engineer from Chennai, along with his wife Thenmozhi, decided to dedicate the contributions from their wedding, held in Jakkampatti, Theni district, to this noble cause.
Aishwaryam Trust Manager K. Ramesh, expressed gratitude for the couple’s contribution. "We are deeply thankful for this generous donation, which will go toward the construction of our cancer ward. The facility, built at a cost of ₹40 lakh, will house around 20 beds and provide care and treatment for terminally ill cancer patients. We are aiming to inaugurate the facility soon, once the final electrical and plumbing works are completed," he said.
The selfless act of this couple is a testament to the compassion and generosity that will help improve the lives of those in need.
